There’s a role for you

Auckland Coastguard rescue crews are all volunteers. Our vessels are on standby 24/7, 365 days of the year and require crewing. It’s a big commitment but comes with big rewards – saving lives at sea.

Become a Volunteer

Auckland Coastguard owns, maintains and operates three dedicated rescue vessels. These vessels are entirely crewed by volunteers and provide 24/7 emergency assistance to our community, on and around the Hauraki Gulf and beyond.

We are always in need of reliable, committed, team spirited and motivated people to crew these vessels so they can effectively save lives at sea

Being an Auckland Coastguard volunteer requires huge dedication and hours of training. Depending on your role, volunteers can average 30 – 40 hours a month or more to fulfil their own personal development, rostered duties and emergency call outs which we respond to day and night.

Physical uniformity is not a prerequisite. Men and women from all walks of life, all sizes, ages 18 - 65 and all communities are welcome. You must be able to swim, a marine back ground is preferred, but the priority is an attitude to learn a specialist skill, and use it to serve our community.

Our volunteers are part of New Zealand’s army of humble heroes, discreetly making us a better place to live.
